This wonderful cuckoo clock just arrived here today. We are excited to add it to our collection and share it with you here.
The clock has a high quality painting on zinc set into a frame. The motif is of a “Birdseller”, the peddler has a cane and a large backpack with caged birds… the detail of this caricature is just fantastic, one of the best we have ever seen. His chin is tilted up and his eyes are looking up at the caged birds that are on his back. As the pendulum swings the eyes move with left to right looking up at the birds.
At the top of the hour the front door to the cage opens to reveal a cuckoo bird that moves with the call… all the while the mans eyes are looking up at the bird.
